Who We Are
The American Society for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (ASEEE) is a professional society based in the United States that designs, accredits, and certifies competency-based training programs in electrical, instrumentation and control, and electronics engineering. We work with approved training centers and industry partners to build a workforce that is qualified, current, and verifiably competent.
Electrical and control systems sit at the center of modern infrastructure. Power networks, process plants, water systems, transportation, data centers, and manufacturing all depend on people who can install, operate, test, and maintain those systems safely. ASEEE exists to raise and verify the standard of that work.
Our Mission: Innovate, Educate, and Empower
- Innovate. We develop programs that keep pace with evolving technology, from digital substations and smart instrumentation to modern protection and inspection methods.
- Educate. We define clear learning outcomes grounded in recognized codes and standards, and we support training centers in delivering them with rigor.
- Empower. We give professionals credentials that prove what they can do, and we give employers a reliable way to verify those credentials.
What ASEEE Does
Program Design
ASEEE programs are built backward from the job. Each program starts with the tasks a professional must perform and the standard of performance expected, then defines the knowledge, skills, and practical abilities required. Content is aligned with relevant codes and standards, such as those published by NFPA, IEEE, IEC, ISO, and OSHA, so that training reflects how work is actually governed.
Training Center Approval
Programs are delivered through ASEEE-approved training centers. Before approval, centers are reviewed for qualified instructors and assessors, suitable facilities and equipment, and sound quality and record-keeping practices. Approval is specific to each program, and approved centers can be verified online through Center Check.
Certification
ASEEE issues certificates to candidates who meet the assessment criteria of a program. Every certificate carries a unique ID and can be verified online through Certificate Check, giving employers and clients immediate confidence in the credential they are reviewing.
Our Disciplines
ASEEE programs are organized into nine disciplines:
- Power Systems & High Voltage
- Cable Jointing & Termination
- Hazardous Areas & Explosion Protection
- Instrumentation, Control & Calibration
- Electrical Safety & Authorization
- Fire & Gas Detection and Life Safety
- Testing, Inspection & QA/QC
- Utility Locating & Cathodic Protection
- Electrical Installation, Electronics & Communications
How Certification Works
- Choose a program. Select a program that matches your role and experience, and confirm any prerequisites.
- Train with an approved center. Complete the program with an ASEEE-approved training center, combining technical instruction with hands-on practice.
- Demonstrate competence. Complete knowledge and practical assessments against defined criteria.
- Receive your certificate. Successful candidates receive a certificate with a unique ID that can be verified online.
- Stay current. For most competency programs, ASEEE recommends recertification every three years.
The full requirements are set out in our Certification Policy.
Our Values
- Safety first. Every program reflects the principle that no task is so urgent that it cannot be performed safely.
- Technical integrity. We ground our programs in real, current standards and sound engineering practice.
- Verified competence. We certify what people can demonstrate, not merely what they have attended.
- Impartiality. Certification decisions are based on evidence and consistent criteria.
- Transparency. Certificates and training centers can be verified openly and quickly.
- Inclusion. We welcome candidates of every background and are committed to fair, accessible assessment.
Who We Serve
ASEEE serves technicians, engineers, supervisors, inspectors, and safety professionals across the utility, oil and gas, petrochemical, manufacturing, construction, and infrastructure sectors. We also serve the employers and project owners who depend on them, giving them a clear, verifiable way to confirm that the people working on their systems are qualified for the task.
