The American Society for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (“ASEEE”) is committed to making our websites, online services, and programs accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe access to professional education and certification should not depend on ability, and we are continually working to improve the experience for all users.
Our Accessibility Target
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
Our commitment also supports the goals of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and applicable state and federal accessibility laws.
Measures We Take
- Including accessibility considerations in the design and development of new pages and features
- Using semantic structure, headings, and landmarks to support assistive technologies
- Providing text alternatives for meaningful images
- Designing for sufficient color contrast and not relying on color alone to convey information
- Supporting keyboard navigation with visible focus indicators
- Labeling form fields clearly and providing understandable error messages
- Supporting right-to-left layouts and multiple languages where our content is translated
- Reviewing content with automated tools and manual testing
Features That Support Accessibility
- Responsive layouts that adapt to different screen sizes and zoom levels
- Compatibility with current versions of major browsers and common screen readers
- Text that can be resized without loss of content or function
- Consistent navigation across pages
Known Limitations
Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. Areas we are actively working to improve include:
- Older PDF documents and downloadable materials that may not be fully tagged
- Some third-party content and embedded services, such as payment forms, maps, or videos, that are outside our direct control
- Historical images and media that may lack complete text alternatives or captions
If you encounter content you cannot access, we will work with you to provide the information in an alternative format.
Accessibility in Programs and Assessments
Accessibility extends beyond our websites. Candidates who need reasonable accommodations for training or assessment, such as additional time, alternative formats, or assistive technology, should request them from their training center before the program begins. Accommodations are designed to remove barriers while maintaining the integrity of the competency being assessed. Some practical competencies involve physical tasks that are essential to safe performance of the work; in those cases, we will work with candidates to explore what reasonable options are available. More information is available in our Certification Policy.
Assistive Technology and Compatibility
Our websites are designed to be compatible with assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, speech recognition software, and alternative keyboards. They are not designed to work with browsers or assistive technologies that are no longer supported by their developers.
Feedback and Assistance
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of our websites and services. If you experience a barrier, please let us know:
- The web address or page where you encountered the problem
- A description of the issue
- The browser and assistive technology you were using, if applicable
- Your preferred format and method for us to respond
Email [email protected] with the subject line “Accessibility.” We aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback promptly and to provide a response or alternative within a reasonable time.
Ongoing Commitment
Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We review this statement periodically and update it as we improve our websites and services. The “Last updated” date above shows when it was last revised.
