Program Overview
Smart field instruments carry far more than a 4-20 mA signal. Range, damping, units, diagnostics and device status all live inside the transmitter, and they are reached through digital protocols such as HART and FOUNDATION Fieldbus. Technicians who can communicate with these devices and calibrate them accurately keep measurements trustworthy and loops stable.
This practical program centers on two widely used field tools: the AMS Trex Device Communicator and the Druck DPI610/612 pressure calibrator. Participants learn the principles of HART and FOUNDATION Fieldbus communication, navigate the communicator's configuration and calibration functions, and configure and trim pressure transmitters against a known reference. Calibration practice follows the analog signal conventions of IEC 60381-1, the transmitter evaluation methods of IEC 61298 and the traceability principles of ISO/IEC 17025, with fieldbus profiles referenced to IEC 61158 and IEC 61784. Every exercise is recorded on an as-found and as-left calibration sheet, so participants leave with a documentation habit that stands up to audit.

Assessment & Certification
Assessment combines a written examination on fieldbus principles, device configuration and calibration methods with a practical assessment in which each participant configures a HART transmitter with the AMS Trex and completes an as-found and as-left pressure calibration with the Druck DPI610/612. Practical sessions take place at ASEEE-approved training centers, using calibrated equipment and realistic work scenarios under the supervision of a qualified assessor.
Participants who meet the competency criteria receive an ASEEE competency certificate carrying a unique certificate ID that employers and clients can verify online through Certificate Check. ASEEE recommends recertification every 3 years to keep skills aligned with current practice and revised standards.
